DAC Introduction

Stemmed from its vision “We Accredit- World Recognize”, and for the purpose of regulating and enhancing the quality of the practices of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) operating in the Emirate of Dubai, Dubai Accreditation Department (DAC) has been established in Dubai Municipality (DM) as per Administration Decision 38/2008.

DAC provides the following services:

  • Accreditation services to all types of conformity assessment bodies including laboratories (testing, calibration, medical), inspection bodies and certification bodies.
  • Registration services (issuing No Objection Certificate and Permit to Practice) to all types of conformity assessment bodies working in Dubai
  • Organizing Proficiency testing programs for laboratories
  • Organizing Trainings to staff of conformity assessment bodies on various international standards such as ISO 17025, ISO 17020 and ISO 17021.

Dubai Accreditation Department as per the Law 2/2010 is recognized by the government as the official body in the Emirate of Dubai responsible for assessing and accrediting the competence of organizations in the field of calibration, testing, inspection and certification of management systems, products and personnel according to international standards.

Believing in the importance to be internationally recognized to facilitate cross border trade and eliminate technical barriers to trade, Dubai Accreditation Department (DAC) of Dubai Municipality (DM) has become an ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) signatory in the field of testing and calibration in October 2009 through the implementation of a quality management system in accordance to international standard ISO/ IEC 17011 as described within this manual.

DAC becomes the first ILAC MRA signatory for inspection in Middle East. International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) on 24th October 2012 for accreditation of inspection bodies according to ISO 17020. It is worth mentioning to note that with this achievement UAE is among the only three Islamic countries who become signatory of this MRA. These countries are UAE, Turkey and Indonesia.

Also DAC becomes IAF MLA signatory in 2013 for Certification Bodies in Middle East. International Accreditation Forum (IAF) during its Joint IAF-ILAC Annual Meetings which was held during the period October 16th to 25th 2013 approved DAC as signatory of IAF/PAC MLA for accreditation of Certification Bodies in the main scope ‘Management System Certification ISO/ IEC 17021- Sub scopes: Management Systems ISO 9001, ISO 14001.
